SPORT
Sport is an integral part of life at Bainesse School. We have a vibrant calendar of events, including swimming sports, athletics, cross country, interschool football, and interschool rippa rugby. We also proudly compete in the Tough Kids competition and field both winter and summer hockey teams in Palmerston North.
We are proud to have our own multi-sport turf, which provides an all-weather space for a wide range of physical activities and team sports throughout the year. Physical Education (PE) is a core part of our curriculum, and we occasionally welcome external facilitators to enrich our PE sessions. During the summer months, our school pool is open at break times, giving students a fun and active way to cool off. Our students also take initiative during break times, often organising and playing team sports together.

MATARIKI FESTIVAL
Our annual Matariki Festival is a much-anticipated evening filled with singing, dancing, and captivating performances. It brings our community together in celebration, with students taking an active role in preparing a traditional hangi meal. The festival is a highlight of our year, fostering a deep sense of connection, culture, and pride.

AG DAY
Ag Day is a beloved Bainesse School tradition that celebrates our rural roots. Students have the opportunity to bring in lambs, calves, or goats, and showcase their creativity through flower and vegetable gardens, as well as a wide range of art, craft, and design projects. It’s a day of learning, sharing, and community pride.

LUNCHES IN SCHOOLS
We are fortunate enough to be part of the Ka Ora, Ka Ako | Healthy School Lunches Programme, provided by the collective collaboration between Compass Group NZ, Gilmours, and Libelle Group. Every student receives a free Ministry provided nutritious lunch each day.

CAMPS
Each year, we begin Term 1 with a whole-school camp that is a highlight for students and staff alike. It’s a fantastic way to build friendships and start the year with shared experiences. In addition, our Year 7 and 8 students attend a biennial camp at Forest Lakes, offering further adventure and personal growth.

EPIC MUSIC
Bainesse School is proud to offer EPIC music lessons as part of our enriching educational program. These small-group sessions take place once a week during school hours, making them both accessible and convenient. Students can choose from guitar, drums, or keyboard, receiving focused instruction that nurtures their musical abilities and encourages creative exploration.
PRODUCTION
Our annual school production, held in Term 3, is a treasured tradition at Bainesse School. Every student takes part, showcasing their talents in acting, singing, and performance. It's a magical evening that highlights the creativity and confidence of our learners and brings our community together in celebration.
DUFFY BOOKS
We are proud to be part of the Duffy Books in Homes and Schools programme. Through this initiative, our students receive three free books each year to take home and enjoy. We also celebrate positive behaviour by giving out additional books during assemblies to students who have been 'caught being good!'

EXTRA ACTIVITIES
Each year, we offer a range of engaging programs for our students. From Term 1, we host the Life Education programme, along with the Zero Waste programme, an entertaining puppet show and to celebrate the end of the year, we hold a whole-school Water Fun Day in Term 4.

SCIENCE
Our staff have recently completed professional development through the House of Science. We now integrate their hands-on science kits into our classroom learning, allowing students to explore scientific concepts through engaging experiments, both in the classroom and in our natural environment.
